Dora-Marie Groelsema – Assistant Coach

Hi, my name is Dora-Marie, and I have been part of GMST for 10 years! A couple of years after I joined GMST, I started to club swim with the Patuxent Aquatics Club and discovered my passion for swimming! In 2021, I graduated from Parkdale High School and started coaching for Greenbelt, primarily for the 8&Unders. Since then, I have grown to love coaching! Currently, I attend the University of Maryland and am a coach for the Patuxent Aquatics Club, which has given me experience with all age groups. I have completed the Foundations of Coaching (USA Swimming and the American Swimming Coaches Association); Safety Training for Swim Coaches (American Red Cross); and Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First and Aid (American Red Cross). I love being around the swimmers and making sure they have fun!

Maia Swisdak – Assistant Coach

My name is Maia and I am a junior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, where I am also on the swim team. I joined GMST as a Developmental when I was 5 years old, and now I coach them! I officially began coaching the Developmentals in the 2021 Fall session and occasionally volunteer with the 8&Under age group as well. I am certified in Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First and Aid by the American Red Cross, and currently lifeguard part-time at the Greenbelt Aquatic and Fitness Center. Additionally, I hope to complete Foundations of Coaching 101 through USA Swim and Safety Training for Swim Coaches through the American Red Cross by Summer 2022. Outside of swimming, I enjoy history and house-hunting.

Quentin Walsh – Assistant Coach

I’m Quentin Walsh, and I have been swimming since I was eleven. I immediately fell in love with the sport and joined a year-round team, first UMAC and later Machine, where I’ve progressed as a competitive swimmer. Over the years, I have enjoyed summer league and its fun environment as well as the more competitive winter season. Getting to coach means passing on my enthusiasm for swimming; I’ve always enjoyed helping the younger kids on my teams, and getting to do it officially is rewarding. I have a Red Cross Lifeguarding certification with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and a First Aid certification. I plan to take components of coaches’ safety training before the summer season starts.

Christian Horchler – Assistant Coach

Hi! My name is Christian and I’ve been on the team periodically since I was seven. Currently, I am a senior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School. I help coach the 8 & Under and the Developmental swimmers. I love being able to see the amazing progress and improvements that our swimmers show! I love traveling and learning about cultures. Alongside with GMST, I have swam for Roosevelt’s High School swim team since 2019 and I recently joined Machine Aquatics club swim. Previously I have swum on the SAISA and ASIAC teams for the American International School of Chennai. Swimming runs in my family and I have been on swim teams ever since I can remember!

Olivia Nickel – Assistant Coach

Volunteer Assistant Coaches

GMST typically has from five to ten volunteer assistant coaches that help implement the practice sets, work one-on-one with swimmers, and help with practice and swim meet logistics on an as-needed basis.  Some of these volunteers later become full Assistant Coaches.
